Convert a 3D Scan to a CAD Model

Paramesh AI converts 3D scan meshes into parametric CAD models. Upload the scan (STL/OBJ/PLY/3MF), the AI repairs the mesh, identifies geometric features, and builds a clean solid with a feature tree. Works best for prismatic mechanical parts — brackets, mounts, plates, and housings.

3D scan to CAD workflow

3D scanning produces dense triangulated meshes that are great for visualization but unusable in CAD software for editing or manufacturing. The typical workflow to get an editable model is hours of manual re-modeling in SolidWorks or Fusion 360.

Automated conversion with AI

Paramesh AI automates this process for prismatic mechanical parts. The pipeline:

  1. Cleans the scan data — removes noise, fixes normals, fills small holes
  2. Segments the cleaned mesh into planar, cylindrical, and conical regions
  3. Recognizes features — bolt holes, mounting holes, chamfers, pockets
  4. Builds a parametric model from scratch using CadQuery

What types of scans work best?

The tool works best for machined or sheet metal parts with flat faces and cylindrical holes. It handles parts with 4-10+ features and up to a few thousand faces. Organic or freeform surfaces are not supported.
